Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Mystic Cave Zone

Alright, I haven't posted in a long time so here's a new song! This song was composed by Masato Nakamura for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The guy really know how to use the bass to create a really catchy and groovy beat. It's also remarkable all the different sound he mixes together and how he still gets this really cohesive sound out of it in the end.

I wish they would stick to this kind of music for future sonic games but they switched to this punk rock  sound since Sonic adventure. Don't get me wrong, I mostly enjoy the new soundtracks (some of those songs might actually end up here eventually) but I just find that the Genesis Sonic soundtrack represent the series better. Then again, with the gameplay change, it's a bit harder to say.

Final Fantasy VII - Anxious heart

Sorry to put yet another FF7 song so closely to another one but I was listening to this today and thought I'd put it up here. It is a bit moody but it really well written. Bravo Nobuo Uematsu(composer of this song)!

Battlefield 1942 - Main Theme

I was just playing the beta of Battlefield 3 and it brought me back some memories of this masterpiece. Damn I feel like playing this again now... BF1942 was such a great fps! Of course, Battlefield 2 and Bad company are also great games but I just prefer the WWII era over this modern era fad.

Final Fantasy VII - The Nightmare's Beginning

My blog views have been ranking up for some reason lately and so I'll try to continue on this trend. I'm considering posting video's of myself playing video game songs on the guitar with each piece that I present to add a little bit more content to the blog. I think it would be a fun thing to add. I might try this next month if I have the time.

Unreal Tournament - Phantom

Oh yeah! Good old Unreal Tournament electronica music. Subsequent soundtracks for UT2k3, 2k4 and III are really bad compared to what they made back in the days. If they ever make a new one, they better have crazy ass music like this! Unfortunately, according to Epic (the UT development team) there currently are no plans to make a new one.

Castle Crashers - Thieves forest

Awesome song from a great action RPG. I couldn't find the name of the composer though. All I know is that the soundtrack of this game was made by various artists from Newgrounds.

Dragon Warrior - Chateau Ladutorm

The first Dragon Warrior(or Dragon Quest if you prefer)! Since it's only 8 bit music, I've found a great cover to go with it:

Guilty Gear X2 - Writhe In Pain

My blog stats are showing me that most people that end up here were looking for Guilty Gear music or Blizzard related stuff(Starcraft/Warcraft). Well, I guess I'll post more of that stuff in the following week then :D

Writhe In Pain is another awesome piece by Daisuke Ishiwatari featuring some great electric guitar work and of course harpsichords!

Kirby Super Star Ultra - Gourmet Race

One of the best game on SNES with one of the most catchy song ever, enough said! They also made a pretty nice metal cover of the song for Super Smash Bros Brawl:

Jurassic Park (SNES)- Mountain

This game was actually pretty innovative for the time. Indeed, it had FPS sequences mixed with top down 2D action adventure gameplay. Pretty funky for SNES if you ask me. Anyways, most of the songs in the games were poor but this one in particular was pretty good.

Lord of Vermilion - Abandoned Castle Rukusaria

So I never actually played this game but I did download the soundtrack anyways since it was made by Nobuo Uematsu, a name that should ring a bell to any video game music enthusiast.

Zelda Wind Waker - Dragon Roost Island

So I haven't been too punctual with the blog (at least it's not as worst as my other blog...). I'll try to make it up in the following days.

Anyways! Here's today's piece! A relaxing song from Wind Waker that has this nice native South American feel to it.

Soul Calibur II - Confrontation

For some reason, this song reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean. Nevertheless, it's pretty awesome.

Starcraft - Terran Theme 2

Starcraft, my favorite real time strategy game and arguably the best ever made. The first one had some freaking awesome music! I'm not a fan of the soundtrack of the sequel though.

I think what made the music so good in the first one is that it was so influenced by the Warcraft 2 soundtrack. Indeed, the song used in Starcraft 1 are electronic covers of more warcraft-ish orchestral pieces that were originally intended for the game. Here's an example (see if you can recognize some of the songs in there):

Super Mario RPG - Margarie Margarita

If you ignore the girl crying in the background, this piece is awesome. The harpsichord is definitely up there among my favorite instrument with the church organ and the electric guitar!
