Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Mystic Cave Zone

Alright, I haven't posted in a long time so here's a new song! This song was composed by Masato Nakamura for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The guy really know how to use the bass to create a really catchy and groovy beat. It's also remarkable all the different sound he mixes together and how he still gets this really cohesive sound out of it in the end.

I wish they would stick to this kind of music for future sonic games but they switched to this punk rock  sound since Sonic adventure. Don't get me wrong, I mostly enjoy the new soundtracks (some of those songs might actually end up here eventually) but I just find that the Genesis Sonic soundtrack represent the series better. Then again, with the gameplay change, it's a bit harder to say.

Final Fantasy VII - Anxious heart

Sorry to put yet another FF7 song so closely to another one but I was listening to this today and thought I'd put it up here. It is a bit moody but it really well written. Bravo Nobuo Uematsu(composer of this song)!

Battlefield 1942 - Main Theme

I was just playing the beta of Battlefield 3 and it brought me back some memories of this masterpiece. Damn I feel like playing this again now... BF1942 was such a great fps! Of course, Battlefield 2 and Bad company are also great games but I just prefer the WWII era over this modern era fad.

Final Fantasy VII - The Nightmare's Beginning

My blog views have been ranking up for some reason lately and so I'll try to continue on this trend. I'm considering posting video's of myself playing video game songs on the guitar with each piece that I present to add a little bit more content to the blog. I think it would be a fun thing to add. I might try this next month if I have the time.

Anyways, more FFVII!

Donkey Kong Country - Fear Factory

I guess I'm in an electronica mood lately. Make sure to also check the remix they made for Donkey Kong Country Returns:

Unreal Tournament - Phantom

Oh yeah! Good old Unreal Tournament electronica music. Subsequent soundtracks for UT2k3, 2k4 and III are really bad compared to what they made back in the days. If they ever make a new one, they better have crazy ass music like this! Unfortunately, according to Epic (the UT development team) there currently are no plans to make a new one.

Castle Crashers - Thieves forest

Awesome song from a great action RPG. I couldn't find the name of the composer though. All I know is that the soundtrack of this game was made by various artists from Newgrounds.

Dragon Warrior - Chateau Ladutorm

The first Dragon Warrior(or Dragon Quest if you prefer)! Since it's only 8 bit music, I've found a great cover to go with it:

Guilty Gear X2 - Writhe In Pain

My blog stats are showing me that most people that end up here were looking for Guilty Gear music or Blizzard related stuff(Starcraft/Warcraft). Well, I guess I'll post more of that stuff in the following week then :D

Writhe In Pain is another awesome piece by Daisuke Ishiwatari featuring some great electric guitar work and of course harpsichords!

Super Mario Bros 3 - Don't Step On The Donuts (Metal Cover)

I couldn't find the original on youtube but that's close enough! This is probably the shortest song I'll post in here but it's so catchy! Enjoy.

Kirby Super Star Ultra - Gourmet Race

One of the best game on SNES with one of the most catchy song ever, enough said! They also made a pretty nice metal cover of the song for Super Smash Bros Brawl:

Jurassic Park (SNES)- Mountain

This game was actually pretty innovative for the time. Indeed, it had FPS sequences mixed with top down 2D action adventure gameplay. Pretty funky for SNES if you ask me. Anyways, most of the songs in the games were poor but this one in particular was pretty good.

Lord of Vermilion - Abandoned Castle Rukusaria

So I never actually played this game but I did download the soundtrack anyways since it was made by Nobuo Uematsu, a name that should ring a bell to any video game music enthusiast.

Zelda Wind Waker - Dragon Roost Island

So I haven't been too punctual with the blog (at least it's not as worst as my other blog...). I'll try to make it up in the following days.

Anyways! Here's today's piece! A relaxing song from Wind Waker that has this nice native South American feel to it.

Soul Calibur II - Confrontation

For some reason, this song reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean. Nevertheless, it's pretty awesome.

Starcraft - Terran Theme 2

Starcraft, my favorite real time strategy game and arguably the best ever made. The first one had some freaking awesome music! I'm not a fan of the soundtrack of the sequel though.

I think what made the music so good in the first one is that it was so influenced by the Warcraft 2 soundtrack. Indeed, the song used in Starcraft 1 are electronic covers of more warcraft-ish orchestral pieces that were originally intended for the game. Here's an example (see if you can recognize some of the songs in there):

Super Mario RPG - Margarie Margarita

If you ignore the girl crying in the background, this piece is awesome. The harpsichord is definitely up there among my favorite instrument with the church organ and the electric guitar!

Castlevania SOTN - Wood Carving Partita

Another baroque piece, this time from Castlevania Symphony of the night,a title regarded as one of the best in the series.

Chrono Trigger - Secret of the forest

I had to follow up the last piece with another forest related one in another SNES RPG! Love the bass track on this one.

On another note, I'm gonna be attending video games live tonight. Should be pretty EPIC!

Secret of Mana - Into the Thick of it

Woke up this morning with this song in my head. Awesome song, awesome game. People, do your self a favor... play this song on your mp3 player, then run threw a forest. It's mind blowing, I promise! : D

C&C Red Alert 1(and 3) - Hell March

While we're on the subject of HELLghast MARCH, I thought I'd post this one too. This is my official theme for conquering the universe! If you're wondering what the guy is shooting in German at the beginning, apparently it is "Die Waffen legt an!", roughly translated as "Ready weapons!".

I'll also post the cover they made for the song in Red alert 3 right here:

Killzone - Helghast March

Another great piece here from the first Killzone on the PlayStation 2. I especially enjoy the switch in theme starting at 1:35. Indeed, at the beginning it's like "oh shit they're coming and we're all screwed!" but then, comes the 1:35 part and it's like "ok, there's still some hope, lets kill those idiots!".

The Legend of Dragoon - If You Still Believe

I remember the first time I played this game and heard this song; it had to be epic! And surely, in my opinion, it was yet another success  for the PlayStation 1 RPG scene. Unfortunately, the game received mixed reviews.

Metal Gear Solid - The best is yet to come

Man... This song just makes me feel like growing a garden and joining Greenpeace! Seriously though, thanks to this song, this is probably the best credit roll in video game history! The song was composed by Rika Mrunaka(who also worked on other great titles like Castlevania: Symphony of the night) and performed by Aoife Ni Fhearraigh, an Irish singer.

Anyways, Metal Gear Solid is a game to be praised and remembered. If you missed its first incarnation, try at least to pick up it's remake; Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.

Donkey Kong Country 2 - Stickerbrush Symphony

If you never played Donkey Kong country 1-2-3 on the SNES well you missed something in your life. The graphics were awesome for the time, the gameplay was spectacular and the music was excellent! Too bad that David Wise (the British composer for DK1-2-3) doesn't have the chance to make more of this high quality music. Indeed, he hasn't been employ for any big projects in years(his last big game was StarFox Adventures).

Anyways, expect to hear more DK songs on this blog in the future.

Megam Man X6 - Blaze Heatnic

This is easily one the most awesome song ever made in video-games. The whole soundtrack from Mega Man X6 is actually pretty impressive. Well, music has always been one of the series strong point anyways.

Mortal Kombat 3 - The Temple

To celebrate the recent release of the new Mortal Kombat, here's one of my favorite song from the serie! By reading my blog you'll see that I'm a big fan of music that has this baroque feels to it like this piece.

Anyways, I'm so gonna go buy the new MK this week! Can't wait! (I know I said I'm not a big fan of fighting games in another post but... MK is different!... Fatalities!)

Guilty Gear X 2 - Awe of She

Ahhh Guilty Gear... Daisuke Ishiwatari (the composer of the Guilty Gear ost) is simply crazy. The only reason I ever liked this game is because of the music in it! I'm not really a big fan of fighting games usually because I'm too lazy to learn all the different combos and stuff. With that said, I could still play GG all day long thanks to this music!

First song: Warcraft 2 - Orc 01

Here it is! The first song of my blog! I was wondering what song I should use to open everything up and this came to mind. I wouldn't say it's my favorite video-game song but it's definitely up there among the bests! Indeed, the whole soundtrack for warcraft 2 was pretty impressive. I would argue that it is easily the best soundtrack ever made by Blizzard. It's a shame that they took a different musical approach after warcraft 2/starcraft. The soundtrack for Warcraft 3 is more ambient than melodic.

Music in video game is awesome!

Lots of video-games have pretty awesome music. I created this blog so that I could share the music that I enjoyed during my gaming life to anyone who happens to end up on this blog. I'll try to post a song every week. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post a comment!
